Dash Canceled Attacks

![]() Samus, like many characters, can use her shield to cancel the dash or run animation effectively. To dash cancel (also sometimes referred to as shield dashing), dash in a direction by pressing left or right on the control stick, then shield by pressing the L or R-trigger to stop the movement. Tap the shield button so that it drops as quickly as possible, after which you can perform any attack in any direction. The applications of this technique revolve primarily around spacing. For example, you can quickly dash away from an opponent’s incoming air attack, then cancel the dash with your shield, turn, and hit them with an attack of your own. Learning to use this method of movement is similar to wavedashing and pivoting in Melee and requires time and a lot of practice to really see results. While performing the technique is relatively simple (though does take some practice, accidentally performing a shield grab is a likely misstep), finding ways to use it and integrating it into your game is conversely quite difficult. |
