Shuffling

![]() A misnomer of sorts, shuffling was a term used during Melee to describe the process of short hopping, performing an air attack, fast falling, and then L-canceling. In Brawl, this term is frequently used despite the lack of L-canceling. To shuffle an air attack, simply short hop by quickly pressing the X or Y-button, perform the air attack, preferably with the C-stick, then fast fall by pressing down on the control stick. Using this in conjunction with moves that auto-cancel will speed up your air game considerably. An attack can occur at any point while shuffling and there are two common phrases used to describe the different scenarios. Rising air attacks refer to an air attack performed just after jumping, so the attack occurs as your character is rising in the air (shuffled rising F-Air). Delayed air attacks refer to performing the air attack just before landing (shuffled delayed F-Air). If these phrases are omitted, it is assumed that the air attack is performed at the peak of the jump. Many players near the upper echelon omit the phrase shuffle completely because it is instead assumed. |
